Boss Of 2008 Has True Heart

PEOPLECARE Health Insurance chief executive Michael Bassingthwaighte was last night declared the 2008 Illawarra Boss of the Year.
Mr Bassingthwaighte has been a vocal advocate of programs which support and encourage high school students and unemployed youth to find employment.Recently he told the Mercury: "At Peoplecare we support any staff who participate in community projects that support young people's transition between school and employment."Professor William Price, head of the school of chemistry at the University of Wollongong, was runner-up at last night's awards. Berkeley Cakes and Pies' Alan and Lisa Jackson were second runners-up.Finalists included Accounting Professionals' Gary Pinch, Disability Trust Residential Group Homes' Lainie Jones, Pembers Mitsubishi's Jeff Miller, University of Wollongong Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention's Doug McKinnon, Pro Automotive's Neil Keevers, Southern Engineering Services' Kevin Grimmer, Illawarra Ethnic Communities Council's Terrie Leoleos, LBJ Tours' Ross Tory, Housing NSW's Nina Knott and University of Wollongong School of Management and Marketing's Professor Sara Dolnicar.The awards dinner, sponsored by the Mercury, Wave FM, EDMEN Recruitment and Creations in Glass, was held at Wests Illawarra and attracted more than 220 guests.
