BUDDING panel beaters will be able to smooth their way to their careers with a intensive training program involving NRMA Insurance and the TAFE Hunter Institute.
Launched yesterday, the school-leaver traineeships combine employment at a smash repairer with training at Glendale TAFE.The Jumpstart program operates in a number of cities, but the Hunter program will be the first to offer 12-month intensive training. Two classes for trainees are planned, starting in the second half of the year.In addition to panel beating and spray-painting, trainees will learn financial administration, supply chain management and business ethics. "We are always on the lookout for young people, both male and female, who are passionate about cars and willing to learn," NRMA Insurance Newcastle operations manager Suzanne Jolliffe said. Hunter Institute transport faculty director Neil Owen said the program was another example of how the institute was working with industry to address the skills shortage. Matthew Kelly
