THE Hunter Region is experiencing an employment boom, with Newcastle the most positive job market in Australia, according to an industry report.
Employment expectations in the region are thriving and 49.5 per cent of businesses intend to increase their staffing levels in the December 2005 quarter.The Hudson Report survey of the employment expectations of more than 8000 employers across Australia has revealed that the outlook for Hunter job seekers in the next few months is rosy.According to the results, one out of every two employers will be taking on staff.Among the most optimistic industry sectors are construction/property and engineering with 65 per cent of employers planning to increase their staffing levels.As China maintains its appetite for Australian raw materials, the resources sector and mining-related industries continue their growth.The report said that 49.5 per cent of Newcastle employers expected to increase their staffing levels during the December quarter, and 7.4 per cent expected to decrease staff.Hudson's Newcastle manager, Tim Rayner, said employment expectations for the Hunter Region exceeded the NSW results significantly."We have the highest employment expectations in Australia, ahead of Western Australia and Queensland," Mr Rayner said.He said more people were moving to the region and a number of industry sectors were leading the way."I'm not surprised by the strong results for the construction/engineering/property sector given the level of activity in the region," Mr Rayner said.Other Hunter industry sectors with strong job outlooks include financial services/insurance, with 51.9 per cent of employers surveyed planning to increase permanent staff.
